Dogs Own Names

In a survey of 10 people, 8 people think that pets know their own names, 1 person thinks his pets don't, and 1 person thinks her pets kind of know their own names. In the same survey of 10 people, 8 people think their pets understand them, and 2 people think that their pets sometimes understand them. Last, 9 people believe their pets can sense human emotions, and 1 person thinks they can't. Have you ever wondered if any of these things were actually true? Doesn't it seem like your pet has some type of superpower sometimes? Well, the people in this survey sure seem to think so, but the question is are they correct?
First of all, do pets know their names? Most cats and dogs that are used to hearing their name know it. Although this does not apply to all cats and dogs, most of them (especially cats) will look up or even come to you when their name is called. People can, of course, train a pet other than a cat or dog to know its name, but they are the most common pets to know their names. But how? Is a dog or cat's brain intelligent enough to process that its name is what identifies them, or do they just hear it so many times and figure out that's what we call them. Well, a name for a pet is just a cue for them to come or for them to know we are talking about

A lot of people thought they could, and they were right. Some people say it’s like a sixth sense your pet has. There have been so many examples of where a human is sad or angry, and the pet will do things as if they are trying to comfort them. So if they can sense your emotions and they try to do something about it, then you know they care about you. Doesn't that make you feel so good? To know that your pet loves you and cares about you. Scientists and vets have worked together to find out that there is an “emotion detector” inside the animal's brain. This allows them, not to know what emotion you are feeling, but just to know when you are upset or angry. Isn’t that so

In the article, “A change of Hearts about Animals,” by Jeremy Rifkin, he argues that the new findings by scientists show that animals are more similar to humans than we thought. In these findings we see that animals have emotion like they feel pain, get stressed, get happy and feel love like humans do. To support his claim he explains that there are studies that suggest that animals can acquire language skills, use tools, show self-awareness and pass on knowledge to the next generation. Through stating that animals are more like humans he wants humans to treat animals better.…

Animal rights are the benefits that people give to animals. Benefits that people give from human use and abuse and the right to protection from human use and abuse and rights can take the moral, legal and practical forms. According to Rifkin 's article “ A change of heart about animals” there is evidence that animals do feel pain and love. For example, elephants moan when they lose a loved one, Koko knows sign language and understands bunch of words, pigs the react differently when they get what they want or when the allowed to play. And around the world and U.S people really don’t take these points into consideration.…

Animals are not human. However close they may be, that is up to biology, but the fact still remains that animals are not human. In “A Change of Heart about Animals,” Jeremy Rifkin says that science has discovered that animals “feel pain, suffer and experience stress, affection, excitement and even love – and these findings are changing how we view animals.” (15)…

There’s nothing better than coming home to see the happy wag of your pup’s tail or hear the smooth purr of a cat. Some of these pets have a job though; they lead the blind, locate objects, open doors, and can even sniff out bombs while working with the police. However, these friendly faces are not just pets, they are service animals. A service animal is defined as follows, “Dogs that are individually trained to do work or perform tasks for people with disabilities” (Service Animals). This one sentence is the difference between a loveable pup and a working dog.…

Do animals have a conscious like we do? Do animals experience pain like we do? Are they aware of how they’re feeling, like we are? All these questions arise because, for a long time, there has been a debate over whether or not animals can think like we humans do and whether or not they have a conscious. Some arguments have been based on the fact that as humans, we have larger brains, and therefor are capable of more cognitive processing and greater understanding (Bickerton, 2000).…

Although this research is not life or death, it is of utmost importance to understand how other animals think and react to the world around them and would be relatively simple to incorporate into existing studies. Understanding if other animals recognize false patterns will not gain humans a cure for cancer or end world hunger, but it will advance human knowledge. Obviously more funding should go to the most crucial research, but it would be simple and cost efficient to include false pattern recognition test into existing research studies. Although it is not possible to say for certain that animals do have false pattern recognition, because enough reliable research has not previously been conducted to come to a scientific conclusion, the quality…

Have you ever come home from a long day at work to find your pet already waiting at the door for your arrival? Do you think that this is an example of their intellection or that it is purely instinctual? For many years this has been a long debated question by scientists, but since there was no way they could look inside their heads to study their thought process they came to the conclusion that animals could not think and that was a unique trait only humans had. For a long time, any studies on the topic “can animals think?” were banned or perceived of as wastes of time. However, some scientists composed these studies anyways and as more tests have been coming about it actually seems more apparent that animals can think.…

In a 2004 psychological science report, two authors, Michael M. Roy and Nicholas J.S. Christenfeld, discussed the psychological phenomenon behind the idea, “do dogs resemble their owners.” They hypothesized there was a small chance people could really pair owners to their dogs based purely on looks, as typically a leash is already connecting the two. The authors did, however, acknowledge there could be a visual correlation between canine and human during the adoption process. People may have been attracted to a certain dog, or any animal for that matter, because of a specific quality or feature they found in common with themselves. Another factor the researchers took into consideration was the length of cohabitation.…
