Dogs have been used as pets for a long time but did you know a dog can actually help people with illnesses. A dog can help a person with cancer, Anxiety and even someone that has PTSD. They can do a lot of incredible stuff to save lives.Even though dogs are pets they also have the power to save lives.
The First thing dogs can help people with is anxiety. Many people with anxiety issues suffer from panic attacks and, stress. In the article, “Pets Are Like Superheroes For People With Anxiety.” Explains, “ No, pets can't talk and maybe they don't know exactly what anxiety is, but animals are a lot more intuitive than people think For a person with anxiety, a pet can do wonders.” (Anders, 2015). In the article, “5 Ways Service Dogs Help People With Cancer” Explains that, “Distractions. Paying attention to a dog can help patients forget about their pain and frustrations for a time, which invites healing and improved health.” (Geier). Dogs are a good distraction for people with cancer because you need to feed the Dog and walk the dog. Dogs usually need a lot of attention. Dogs make you forgetall your problems. Another reasons dogs help people with cancer is they feel safe with a dog. “Safety. Dogs are great listeners, and cancer patients can talk to them about their fears (or choose not to talk and simply enjoy their company in quit.)”(Geier). Cancer patients feel safe with their pets because they can talk to them and they won't say anything back and the won't judge you they just stay by your side and listen to you speaking.
