What animal do you prefer? Would you rather have a dog or a cat? Dogs have always been considered a man’s best friend that 's why many people choose dogs over cats in a given situation. “Dogs have the well-earned reputation of being a human 's best friend. But what about cats? When given the chance, felines can make equally wonderful buddies” (Newman, 2007). Many people have views and reason on why they prefer a dog over a cat or a cat over a dog. However, some of these reasons may be different depending on the type of person, and their everyday lives. Overall there are more differences than there are similarities between dogs and cats. Similarly, dogs and cats both need plenty of exercise throughout the day. They both can be trained with treats, but overall cats are harder to train than dogs. Dogs and cats both are in some way potty trained; cats are trained to use their litter box and dogs are trained to notify their owner that they need to go outside. Depending on the breed of dog or depending on the individual cat both animals are considered to be good with kids; usually older kids tend to be better with animals than younger kids. There are more differences between dogs and cats than there are similarities with their physical features. One difference is what dogs eat and what cats eat. Dogs are considered omnivores because they eat plants and animals, and cats are considered carnivores because they only eat meat. Cats eat meat because they need the protein and fat in their diets. “Between cats and dogs, dogs are more outgoing than cats; with cats they can sleep up to 16 hours a day” (Cat vs. dog, 2015). When it comes to space a bigger dog will need more room to roam in the house than that of a cat. Another major difference between dogs and cats is cats can be left alone more often than dogs can. With cats they have their own litter box and are okay without socializing with humans or other cats; but with dogs they can’t be left alone like that. Dogs are considered more social than cats and they are not only like that because they want to be they kind of have to be.
