Dog Left For Cats

It is said that a dog is a man’s best friend, but if dogs have claimed that title what is left for cats? I would agree with this statement of a dog’s profound loyalty to man if it weren’t for a little black cat that came into my life at just the right moment. The bond between me and my cat was one of the only reasons I was able to get through a very rough patch in my life.
It was the summer of 2014 and things just weren’t going right for my family. First off, my older brother had become sick with an illness that would lead to him being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. On top of my brother’s illness, my parents’ relationship was not going well; they decided that it would be best for my dad to move out of the house for an undetermined amount

Have you ever seen the movie Cats and Dogs? The cats are the villians and the dogs are the good ones in the movie. Now, there's a reason why the cats are the villians, it's because their charateristics resemble a typical villian in a movie. Cats are selfish and most are unfriendly depending on their moods- but dogs on the other hand are more approachable. During my excursion to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, I quickly realized many of the emotional connections that humans and their canine pets share. Prior to visiting with the dogs, I made my way around the cat shelter area. After observing the cats, it became evident that their many of their “cute” behaviors were aimed solely at attracting the attention of potential human companions. For instance, a white cat named Sirocco made a distinctive pawing motion whenever I passed her cage, as if she was beckoning me to come closer and visit with her. Yet, after she had garnered my awareness, the snow colored tabby simply retreated back onto to her cardboard bed to continue her restful afternoon.…

    J. R. R. Tolkien wrote, “All that is gold does not glitter, Not all those who wander are lost; The old that is strong does not wither, Deep roots are not reached by the frost.” Living in the moment and pursuing your dreams are undoubtedly essential parts of enjoying life; however, it is equally as important to stick to your roots and appreciate where you came from, where you obtained your intellectual curiosities, and where you predestined your goals and aspirations. I grew up in a very close-knit family surrounded by the hills of suburban Fullerton in Southern California. By no means was this a harsh environment to live in mentally or physically, in fact, I loved almost everything about my city; the cool weather, the delicious restaurants, and the alluring people had always made me feel blessed. My father worked hard to settle his painting business and my mother had just started her job as a bank accountant; and as far as I could tell, my family was very close to achieving— to some degree— the fabled ‘American Dream’.…

From the ages three to six are nothing but a blur, but from the age seven and on I can remember all the possible struggles my parents went through. At the age of seven my brother, mother and I were sent to a shelter under the surveillance of the witness protection program. During our time there I had to attend school right next door to my room where my family and I were living and we were only allowed to go out to do groceries during an unquestionable time. We were sent there for the reason that my father would verbally and physically abuse my mother while we were in the same or separate rooms. After months had gone by and we were released from the shelter my grandmother was there to support us and she had her doors wide open for us, since we had nowhere else to go nor did my mother have a job.…
