The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a very unconventional and riveting novel. A young boy named Christopher narrates the entire story through his eyes. This gives the reader a sense of how a person with Autism views the world. Before each of the beginning chapters, the author has illustrated faces with divergent expressions. These faces portray how one of Christopher's teachers, Siobhan shows Christopher how to reveal people's feelings as they speak to him. In addition, giving the reader a sense of Christopher's feelings within the chapter. In the novel, Christopher becomes puzzled when his teacher sketches a face with a squiggly line for the mouth.
