Does Theodicy Exist

Theodicy is essentially trying to state without any room for error why god allows for evil to exist in the world and what good can come from it. The word theodicy has existed for approximately 300 years leaving it open for massive amounts of interpretation and not only that but its mere existence as a form of rebelling against the churches as it is not necessarily within religious books. Of course if one finds certain words and interprets them how they want it could be said that it is found in the book. This leads to ones interpretation of mass killings or genocides and why god allows them to exist. If god has this master plan in mind why in all things that are holy would he allow for Hitler, Stalin, Cambodia, the Genghis Khan era, and the other massive genocides that are taking place all over Africa with no real accurate report of numbers to report. This leads into one trying to find some sort of solace in the fact that these millions upon millions of people have died because of ones view of it being religiously correct or …show more content…
This in essence answers the question. Why do good things happen to good people? Unfortunately people can also become products of their environments and will do bad things to everyone no matter if they are good people, bad people, elderly people, or young people. If they have something that the other feels they need such as an automobile or money. This is also the case for people who were once good people and got addicted to drugs and will result in doing bad things to good people to recoup some sort of monetary value in order to get their fix and return to as normal a state as possible. As the author Alessandra G Brohmer says “Only when good and evil are property comprehended can the Problem of Evil be adequately understood, and God is discovered to be

There are multiple reasons as to why we make certain decisions that have the power to determine our present, future, and those around us. The main one is not that of Religion or morals but simply; selfishness. In today's society, there is the belief that if we are selfless and put others before us, then we will be rewarded in the end. Does it still count as being selfless if we expect to benefit from doing a so-called "good deed"? No, it does not.…

My chosen essay topic: In March 2011, Japan was devastated by a massive earthquake quickly followed by a tsunami. To have either one of those events happen would be a significant evil, but for both to occur may count as an “extreme” evil. How would Swinburne explain why God allowed the Japan disaster to happen? A Biblical Response to Genocide Cynthia Rylant once said, “But those with an evil heart seem to have a talent for destroying anything beautiful which is about to bloom” (“Cynthia Rylant Quotes”). If evil is found relating to deeds that destroy things that are perfectly made, and things that are about to bloom beautifully as this quote suggests, than genocide truly is the embodiment of evil. One global way to respond to genocide is to begin to educate others about what genocide truly is, and the historical background of it, as well as the biblical background. Genocide is a big word; therefore, understanding it takes learning the physical and political aspects of it, as well as the moral aspects. According to the dictionary, genocide is the…

The Human Race and Essentialism: An Illusion When people are born, they are not essentially good or evil at heart. People come into the world as objective creatures, and their environment influences what kind of person they grow up to be. People can be compared to a lightly painted canvas, and the environment is the brush that adds color- the good and the bad. In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the idea of being good or evil at heart can be observed though the characters such as Scout Finch and Bob Ewell.…

Dehumanization Human beings love to search for the meaning behind everything because once meaning is found, then justification and rationalization can be given. Genocide is a very complex term, but the act of genocide itself is unfathomable. People always want a reason for why presidents or dictators allow genocide to happen, and the only option that can make everything clear is that human evil must have developed. Although human evil provides an explanation, there is something true about human evil.…

Paul Slovic’s “‘If I look at the mass I will never act’: Psychic numbing and genocide” describes the lack of motivation that arises when people are given facts about mass tragedies. Genocide is the main problem that Slovic mentions, because it means the death of so many people. When mass casualties occur, statistics are usually utilized to describe the extent of the problems, but it is usually difficult for people to fully articulate the meaning behind these numbers. Slovic believes that human brains are badly designed to care about big problems such as genocide, because statistics usually are unable to motivate people to be upstanders rather than bystanders.…

Throughout the religious history of the world there have been many instances in which religion and religious beliefs have been used as an excuse to perpetrate crimes against others. These crimes can be seen in many different religions, such as Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity. Islam and their use of Jihad, or “holy war”, is used as a way to rationalize the killing of individuals that are considered to be infidels. Like Islam, Hinduism, uses their religious teachings as a way to oppress those of lower castes. Individuals in the lowest caste are considered untouchables; they are treated horribly, and ostracized by those of higher caste.…

Throughout the course of history many different groups of people have attempted to eliminate mass amounts of specific people. The intentional extermination of a certain group because of their race, culture, belief, or nationality is the definition of genocide. This act of mass murder is not only practically inconceivable but also so incredibly inhumane and barbaric. The first example of genocide occurred in the 1940’s in what was called the Holocaust. The German dictator Adolf Hitler ordered the death of millions of European Jews during World War II.…

The all knowing and powerful person, God, still has many everyday prayers and people that he looks over its hard for him to look and find those which don’t even know where they they can give directions to. God has priorities and reasons to take his time for being all knowing and knowing the issues that would arise can’t intervene due to testing and seeing how we ourselves would correct such unfortunate events. This is like asking God to save all those in poverty and experiencing inequality but wanting us to find our way to save those who suffer from the grasps of horror. God being all knowing could see what would happen and how things would play out knowing that the savior of many would come and arise by itself without his help or interference or tanglement with all of the world's issues when even someone like him has such a big agenda. God allows for us to commit such crimes for us to have a lesson to learn for future generations be aware of what happens and the horrific scenes produced from the sins that are created from the dishonors in front of our lord.…

If God exists, why is there so much evil in the world? God is described as an all-good (omnibenevolent), all-knowing (omniscient), and all-powerful (omnipotent), overall superior being. We believe that if God is real and he is what he is portrayed to be, there should be no evil. This presents us with the problem of evil: the difficulty of reconciling the existence of suffering and other evils in the world with the existence of God. (Lawhead 364).…
