Yes, the author does acknowledge the counterargument to his position in some way. He concedes his counter argument and explains how it is actually ties with the nose study. The author establishes himself as someone we can trust by coming from a reliable source and sourcing ever claim he makes. Without backing up his information, people will second guess the findings and just consider the finding as a whole as “click-bait”. Coming from a reliable source allows the author to add in his own opinions with less worry of someone denouncing his ideas. 4. Does the writer use pathos to advance his argument? What kind? Cite words/details that trigger emotion (Explain which words convey which emotion(s))? Yes, the author uses pathos by linking the reader with the study. In sentences like “People are more similar than they are different. What this research does is offer people a view of why we’re different”, it allows the readers to be tied in with the study and relate to it. It also makes the reader more willing to share the study because they feel the study can be related to themselves.
