Does The Sun Determine Climate?

Decent Essays
Whether it is a dry day, a balmy day, heavy snow, or a hurricane, the ocean has played a important role in it. Although the sun is responsible for driving all weather on Earth, but the oceans and the atmosphere both derive sun's energy along certain paths to produce both regional climate and all weather phenomena occurring on earth surface. The ocean plays a major role in maintaining and determining climate because it absorb, store, and transport the heat from the sun,it also affect atmospheric temperature and circulation around the world, because 97% of earth surface is covered with water.when sun heats the atmosphere some of its heat is absorbed by land the majority of the sun’s radiation is absorbed by the ocean. The ocean doesn't just store

Over the course of the last couple of years, weather patterns have exceedingly changed due to climate change. Overall, climate change is seen as a very controversial issue because some people believe that climate change is a legitimate issue and has been directly caused by humans, while others believe that the weather changes are just natural processes that should be expected to change from time to time and that climate change has absolutely nothing to do with the recent temperature changes that the world has been going through. However, climate change has been proven to be the leading cause of changing weather patterns all over the world, as well as the start of the El Niño effect, which is a series of climatic changes in the Pacific Ocean…

In a 2016 article entitled “Changing Climate” the author Thomas Sumner discusses a variety of topics that revolve around how humans have impacted the Earth’s climate. “Changing Climate” examines climate change research, ocean circulation, hurricane research, and geology and climate. This article uses past and present research to validate the importance of these issues to create a well written exploration of human’s effect on the climate. Despite the fact that there is not a lot of data about what Earth’s environment was like before the early 1900’s, Sumner makes a compelling argument about how humans have had a negative influence on their surroundings. Sumner looked at several aspects of climate change and how it affects the world and…

I think ocean currents help keep temperatures overland in check, either warming up an area or cooling it down. Climate change melts glaciers adding more freshwater into the oceans, but it also increase the temperature of the water. The melting glacier can also cause sea level to rise. Climate change can affect the chemistry of the water and also increase the temperature in the water, and animals that had adapted to the normal conditions of the ocean will start to die off. What is ocean policy and why is it important? The National Ocean Policy sets forth a vision of an America whose stewardship ensures that the ocean, our coasts, and the Great Lakes are healthy and resilient, safe and productive, and understood and treasured so as to promote the well-being, prosperity, and security of present and future generations. Pollution, overfishing, and natural disasters are affecting the oceans in a negative way. Overfishing is something that can take place in any lake, ocean, and even ponds to set laws on.…

Similar factor is happening during the summer and the winter; ocean stores heat during the summer and releases during the winter, thereby, this cycle prevents substantial swings in the temperature. Also, water density, water temperature and salinity have significant importance in the ocean. Density of the seawater influences ocean’s structure and movement, and density is dependent on the temperature and salt content in the ocean’ water. All the water on Earth including freshwater, seawater, evaporated water, solid water are in constant motion, circulating between the ocean, the…

In the article, Tomasz Nowakowski explains how the decrease of solar activity can impact Earth through a colder climate. For instance, a Lomonosov Moscow State University researcher explains that if the theory of a colder climate is the effect the solar activity is true, then it will lead to a significant temperature reduction. However, the temperature reduction will not be as intense as the Maunder Minimum because our future minimum will last about 30 years. In addition, the sun currently has the lowest sunspot activity since 1750. However, the current decrease in sunspots can possibly show "us it's violent nature in the coming years."…

Climate change is a complex global issue that encompasses a multitude of physical systems ranging from the atmosphere to the carbon cycle to the cryosphere and the ocean. This brief provides an introductory overview of the current state of climate science, using data on historical and future trends from recent scientific literature. It explores the methodologies of scientific research on climate change; the role of the atmosphere and greenhouse gases (specifically carbon dioxide) in climate change; the effects of climate change on the ocean (temperatures, sea levels, cryosphere, ocean acidification); and the consequences of climate change on extreme weather. Before delving into the climate science, two terms are unnecessary to grasp patterns in climate change: climate forcing and climate feedback. Climate forcing occurs when a factor external to the climate system changes the actual climate system.…

“EL NINO” is a climate pattern where the water near the pacific ocean gets hotter and affects the atmosphere and it occurs once every few years. Instead of the waves coming in the Pacific North, they come as the south waves and it hits California, carrying moisture and storms. The California El Niño effect has increased rainfall with floods, landslides, and coastal erosion. This is affecting the climate and hence GLOBAL WARMING increases .…

The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean out of the five oceans and stretches east of North and South America to west of Europe and Asia. Its climate consists of ocean currents, which are dependent on the uneven heating of the Earth’s surface and continents/landmasses nearby. Ocean currents transport heat energy within the biosphere, with surface ocean currents warming or cooling the air above them, affecting the land nearby. Surface water is affected by wind currents, while deep ocean water undergoes upwelling, which is caused by the density of water. Abiotic factors which influence the Atlantic Ocean include the light levels, temperature, salinity, density and water movement, and nutrients.…

When the heated atmosphere air meets with the water, it increases the water temperature. “More than 90 percent of all the heat energy trapped by man-made global warming pollution goes into the ocean… the buildup of ocean heat content has increased dramatically… in the past 25 years- and it is accelerating” (Gore 56). This increase in water temperature is not good for developing storms, for it can cause them to be worse than intended.…

Plate tectonics play a fundamental role in climate change around the globe. More than 200 million years ago, the continents were merged together as one giant landmass called Pangaea (Cosmato,2016). As the continents moved, their positions on Earth changed, and so did the movements of ocean currents. Both of these changes had effects on climate. Plate tectonics affect climate by different movements (vertical and lateral) both in which affect air circulation.…
