Does The NFL Paid Enough For Players?

Decent Essays
Every year over 100,000 concussions happen in football. 60% of them are from head to head collisions. So this begs the question, Does the NFL pay enough for people who could possibly end up with serious brain damage, long-term injuries, pain and medical expenses? Should fans feel guilty about supporting it?

Studies show in an impact lasting only 15 milliseconds a player’s head can experience up to 100 Gs of force. Collisions on professional teams cause a force of up to 190 Gs. In the NFL the average speed of a head to head impact is 20 miles per hour. Once the players hit, their heads decelerate at 14 miles per hour. According to studies done by sports scientists the force of the impact is the same as getting smashed in the head with a sledge hammer.

What causes CTE is when players collide, the force from the impact causes their brains to shake so forcefully the brain hits the front of their skull causing damage to it.

Furthermore, some people believe if you wear the correct type of helmet this could possibly protect your brain from any harm. However, in reality it doesn’t matter what type of helmet you wear. Even if someone were to create an amazing helmet, unless you were to put a helmet inside your skull your brain will still be harmed.

The NFL did hang posters in the in league locker rooms, warning players of possible long-term health effects of concussions. Even then most players who have retired from football suffer from pain every day and 90% say it is caused by football. Less than 30% of them say they would want their children to play it. So will things change in the NFL? Will fans think twice before supporting the games? Only time will

When a problem arises, people tend to look at others to assign blame when (more often than not) their finger should be pointing right back in the mirror. The NFL should not be given sole blame for the concussions players suffer while playing football; they are simply the easiest to target. When it is all broken down, the NFL would not even exist if it were not for every person who has ever bought a ticket, tuned into a game on the television or any form of device, or even bought merchandise. The fans are the water that keep the NFL afloat. During the Super Bowl 50, the peak average of viewers was 115.5 million, and that is just taking in to account the in-home televisions.…
