The technology in today's society is used to stay on the so-called hip status. It is used to stay up to date with all the issues, hot topics and anything else that may be happening in the society. This technology comes with the expense that effects humans deeply. Technology causing our neurological pathways to alter in an atrocious way. In the article, “Does the Internet Make You Dumber?” by Nicholas Carr, he argues that the internet is causing an individual’s brain to become shallow along with its distractions. In the article “Mind over Mass Media” by Steven Pinker, he counter-argues that the Internet makes an individual far from stupid, but relatively smarter. Because of the fact, a developmental psychologist focuses more on the human brain instead of a broader study. Carr’s believe that a reader would side with him if he uses someone who is an expert on the topic. However, with Pinker’s appeal to an authority, he uses the book of a general psychologist to back up his argument. This is ineffective because a general psychologists’ studies are broader and less specific to cognitive abilities. Pinker tries to make the Internet sound like the greatest platform in the world by defending it so strongly, but rather ineffectively. Pinker contradicts his claim that the Internet makes you smarter because the general psychologists’ findings prove that the Internet is not a valid portal to enhance our abilities if we can only focus on one experience at a time on the Internet.
