The Black Lives Matter Movement is for a good reason, it’s not that all lives don’t matter, which they do, it's that black lives have been treated like they don’t matter for a long time. We, as Americans, need to redefine the way we treat others and what they believe in. According to Brent Staples, author of Black Men and Public Space, he is treated like a thug, Staples can’t be himself in the street. Staples is misinterpreted by white women everyday for a rapist, thug, and things much worse, “To her, the youngish black man - a broad six feet two inches with a beard and billowing hair seemed menacingly close.” Staples couldn’t even walk near someone without being ridiculed about his appearance.
