Israel has the upper hand with the army compared to that of Palestine, which caused hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to disperse and flee Gaza. Also, due to the advantage in military, hundreds and thousands of Palestinians died from air strikes and other military forces. The people of Gaza faced brutal conditions with no food, water, or shelter as a major refugee problem arose. The Middle Eastern conflict between the two sides connects to Spiegelman’s Maus with similar…
James L. Gelvin, a Professor of Modern Middle Eastern History at the University of California, has published various literature regarding the revolutionary events which characterize modern Middle East. This essay will review Gelvin’s, The Arab Uprising: What Everyone Needs to Know. Gelvin utilizes an easily comprehendible question-and-answer format, as it entails a logical progression, beginning with “what is the Arab world?” to “when will we be able to judge the significance of the Arab uprising?” In his writing, Gelvin discusses the revolutionary protests throughout the region, since 2010, which have contributed immensely to the change in the Arab World today.…
In the spring of 2011, the world watched as revolution after revolution swept the Middle East, starting in Tunisia, then Egypt and spreading all throughout the region. This domino effect of protests and revolutions gained worldwide attention and was coined the “Arab Spring”, as old, legitimate regimes were being overthrown one by one. Striking images, videos and scenes captured by civilians in the conflict were viewed by people all around the world with help from social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, and even mainstream media. Together, the plight of the restless citizens who fought for a chance at a better life gained the world’s attention and showed that passion is in fact more powerful than force, which Arabic dictators such as…
John Forbes Kerry impacts the peace process in the Arab-Israeli conflict through putting forth actions to get both sides closer to peace. His main goals are to target and eliminate fighting extremist or intensely opinionated groups. By removing the violence between the Palestinians, the Arab side, and the Israelis, each side can communicate on peace terms. Kerry has made valiant attempts at ending fighting through recognizing the Palestinian demand for a country of their own, ceasefires, and more Middle Eastern countries in the peace process. By ridding of surrounding small problems, Kerry believes he can rid of the large scale issue and lead Palestinians and Israelis toward a large solution.…
"There is nothing permanent in life except change. - Heraclitus" Nowadays, the Arab world in the Middle East is undergoing enormous change. Those changes, known as the Arab Spring, have resulted in a new outlook in many countries, like Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, and Libya. Recently, people living in Egypt, for example, made it their life’s goal to speak up against the corruption of their government or die trying. In fact, according to an Amnesty International report, during the protests of 2012 against former Egypt president Hosni Mubarak, at least 840 people were killed and another 6,000 people were injured (JURIST - Egypt Revolution Resulted in at Least 840 Deaths: Amnesty Report).…
These movements aren’t directly associated with the February 20 Movement but were surely inspired by it. Analysts show that the February 20 movement has raised the political awareness of Moroccans. In response to the growing tensions, the government has targeted many pro-democracy activists who are arrested and imprisoned. This shows that as a collective society, Morocco is moving closer and closer to democracy. Morocco has achieved great successes in the past 100 years.…
Ariel Sharon lived from 1928-2014 (85 years old). He was on the side of Israel when it came to the Israel-Arab conflicts, and there was no doubt about it. He started his legacy as a rebellious military leader, going against orders twice. He was the head of very violent attacks against the palestinians, and sided with powerful allies. He gained more land for the Israelis, but took it away from the palestinians in the process.…

What were the causes of 9/11 ? 9/11 was one of the most devastating terrorist attacks in the U.S and the rest of the world. There were a couple of things that happened before that caused it to take place. The causes were the U.S getting involved in the Middle East and being allies with Israel. There are also sources suggesting that the U.S knew that the terrorist attack would take place.…
When discussing the Middle East there are seemingly endless issues that arise including terrorism, oil, religion, modernity, and human rights. One of the most popular issues, especially for western countries, is how to create peace in this extremely volatile and often dangerous region. Wither looking at terrorism being fostered in Middle Eastern countries and then spread around the world or simply governments violently suppressing the people they govern, the western world has sought to stabilize a region that they have incredibly varied notions about and interests in. These notions are often based on misconceptions and misunderstandings of society, culture, and religion in the region. These misconceptions and misunderstandings have fostered…

Their lack of fear caused two events to occur. One is the building of its military. To the Israeli’s it was a show of new found power and sovereignty, but to others like Egypt it is a scary thought to have such a powerful neighbor. As a growing threat Egypt and subsequent others were forced to think of worse case scenarios. This is a clear demonstration of a growing security dilemma in the Middle East.…
From its creation, America has been a beacon of hope and freedom to many countries who have aspired to adopt their democratic values. Yet, these values have not always been sought after by other countries, and instead are sometimes imposed upon the ones who rarely accept them with open arms. The Middle East is a seamless example of countries exhibiting resistance to the American way of life and democracy; with many leaders rebelling against the notion due to religious reason. Particularly, Saudi Arabia has been a Middle Eastern Country that has had very close relationship the United States, and over time has adopted forms of its culture even though it clashes with their own. Saudi Arabia has become more Westernized and modernized with the discovery…
