Does Pollution Affect Health

Currently in America, U.S industries emit about 1.7 billion tons of toxic chemicals into the air. Additionally, American citizens, businesses, and institutions produce about 230 million tons of solid waste. Also, according to the U.S government, pollution has impaired 39 percent of the country’s rivers and streams; 45 percent of lakes, reservoirs, and ponds; 51 percent of estuaries; 78 percent of the great lakes shoreline; and 14 percent of ocean shorelines. What do these statistics mean when paralleled to the question of health? Does pollution really affect health? With Gas prices increasing our country is in need of renewable energy. Energy is composed of two components Renewable and Non- Renewable resources. Our biggest non- renewable source is Fossil Fuel, taking thousands of years to be current in the earth which leads for the need of renewable sources. Renewable sources are sources that are not fossil fuel energy, Today advances have let us use the elements to produce energy like solar power , geothermal, wind and water. Fundamental to the existence of everything, energy is a priority for 21st century societies. Which in change inspires counties to outreach to other countries whether it be peacefully or after the use of force. Barbra Adams in her research “Time and Environmental Crisis: An Exploration with special reference to Pollution” touches about how time sensitive pollution is. Her findings show that governments across the globe face time consuming meeting on the topic of pollution. It is not always to tackle a problem as big as pollution therefore, people conjointly have to work together in a shared effort to push through awareness and expedited research and solutions to current problems we face with pollution. Unlike the conventional view, Sociologist need to be able to incorporate the needs of all effected in pollution, rather than making the issue one sided. Ecosystems, Industries and the human population all need to find a middle ground where they all can leave winning. Because companies are more worried about the product they give out rather than the durability and extended life span of an item, companies go for the cheapest and un-reusable products. Consumers in change buy these products waste them and then dispose of them unaware of their final resting place whether it be in a proper garbage can or at your local beach.
