Have you ever read a book or watched a show and thought, “gee I sure wish this guy would just get what he deserves, he is really asking for it?” Sometimes it can get very annoying. Apparently Homer felt the same way. This helped greatly in making The Odyssey more enjoyable to read. Homer did a very good job of giving people what they deserved in the end.
Since one of Homer’s main themes throughout the book is people getting what they deserve it is only fitting that the main character, Odysseus should have his fair share of what he deserves. Since he had a bad case of pride it was only right that he was punished for that. And punished for it he was. He spent twenty long years away from his beloved home because of his pride. But since Odysseus was faithful to Penelope, and was always ready for everything, he made it home and was able to wreak revenge on the suitors. This Odysseus definitely deserved for his strength and cunning through all of his troubles.

Penelope is really the only important guiding factor to Odysseus—even while cheating with Circe he speaks of his love for his wife. If Romeo and Odysseus are the heroes of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and Homer’s The Odyssey respectively, then Juliet and Penelope, the wives of both men, are the heroines. The relationship between Juliet and Penelope holds similarities only insofar as they share similar situations and the effects of them. The true differences in the lives of these woeful women lie within their responses (i.e. their love for their families in addition to their husbands) to the similar occurrences in their lives. In that sense, the similarity of Juliet and Penelope’s situations exacerbate the differences of their responses and the consequences. The differences between Penelope and Juliet paradoxically stem from their similarities.…
