In this day and age hundreds and hundreds of topics have been written about exercise. Exercise has been one of the most sought after topics in every one’s life, regardless of age. It has become a very hot topic and a profitable business. Within a few miles of everyone’s house there are multiple gyms that offer membership programs whose main goal is to help you lose weight and improve body image.
We know that maintaining a healthy lifestyle can help reduce the risk of developing metabolic syndrome. We have learned that metabolic syndrome is a cluster of health related conditions like high blood pressure, high blood sugar level, abnormal cholesterol level and abdominal fat, that when combined together, increases your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. My topic today is about a different form of exercise called “High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). This is not just any form of high intensity exercise, but it has interval or a pause or a break in the intensity. Does this form of exercise help increase fat loss? Does it enhance insulin sensitivity or improve insulin resistance? Does it improve V02 max or the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense or maximal exercise?
