Diversity is a key element for a proper learning environment; students must be amongst people of other backgrounds to be exposed to the variation in the real world. In the scientific community, collaboration with others is necessary, and often, they come from an alternate way of life. Working with someone who may be different in many ways has numerous benefits; they may be able to propose ideas that you had not previously considered, or they could inform you of something that has the potential to assist you later in life. Living in a diverse setting not only an educational benefit, but it also aids in the preparation for the real world. We live in an extremely diverse location, with people immigrating from various places around the world.…
Introduction Good or bad diversity is present all around us. Diversity can be a positive aspect to society because it can offer a variety of objects, ideas, and people into the world. People need to be accepting of diversity because it is has a variety of good functions to provide to a society. Diversity is not just age, gender, race. it is much more complicated that we can imagine. In my opinion diversity is about our connectedness and our interactions where the lines cross. Diversity is a connection between our professional life and personal life and the framework for interrelationships between people. In the workplace we face employees with different cultural backgrounds, perceptions ,capabilities and disabilities that they bring to their workplace.…
There are many definitions of valuing diversity. They tend to have in common the view that in order to value diversity one needs to understand and accept differences. The impact of valuing diversity should be felt on the bottom line in terms of enhanced productivity and profitability. Diversity “Diversity is the sum of all the people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, values and beliefs as assets to the groups and organisations in which they interact”; “The mosaic of people who bring a variety of backgrounds, styles, perspectives, values and beliefs into their companies or organisations”; or simply put “All the ways in which we differ” Valuing Diversity “Recognizing and appreciating that individuals are different and that…
It is important to understand our diverse in America because there is different types of people in our society. For example our color, race, sex, religion, etc. Although, we are all different we are all equal. Many people seem to judge by looks and it shouldn’t be like that. We should all get to know each other and see the different in our country.…
That is why I now want to talk about the benefits of a diverse population and why it is a good thing. We, as a nation, need diversity. Even being exposed to diverse communities can change the way you think.…
From the days of the founding fathers, American has used all means to ensure that she does not lose the concept of one’s identity. The society and government as well as general organization have undergone different stages of revolution but have remained steadfast in ensuring that the full identity is not lost. Given the diversity in the modern days as well as the development of the American history, it is clear that pluralism has remained as strong as it was in the past. The changing democracy could have changed the American wellbeing. More so the competing corporate world would have voiced the opinion in changing how things works in the modern day America.…

The assessment that I chose was called “ Test Your Cultural Sensitivity”. The survey came from The University of Arkansas for Medical Science. ("Template Page - Dept. of Template University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Diversity Committee"). The reason this particular survey was chosen is because I found it found the questions simple and straightforward. For example one of the questions was “When a friend does something you very much disapprove of, do you ("Template Page - Dept. of Template University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Diversity Committee").”…
To me diversity goes far beyond just race, gender, and age. Diversity means there is a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, life experiences, and thoughts/ideas. Diversity means there is an opportunity to grow, learn, and for success. It is an opportunity to grow because you are around people with whom you don't share many similarities, and this means that you will try to get to know them, thus expanding your view of things when you hear how others see things through their eyes. Diversity is an opportunity to learn about other's cultures, what experiences they have had, and hopes/aspirations that they have formed through the lives that they have lived.…
Diversity adds color and interest to the world as different people and cultures share ideas, traditions, and values. Unfortunately, at times diversity is not accepted. This is seen through prejudice and discrimination. On the bright side, many people today have a positive outlook on diversity such as myself and the University of Toledo.…
It was seventh grade when I officially recognized what it was that made me feel so disconnected from the rest of my peers. This was during the time most kids were growing into their bodies and finding discomfort in how they viewed themselves. I fell into that category in a way many people can’t say they relate. The hatred I felt for my body sprung from something a bit different than the typical middle school bodily insecurities. I grew in the opposite direction from which I knew my gender was.…
This is just one of the issues that arise when dealing with diversity. A few more issues will be discussed next and although they are not all necessarily issues, they still need to be looked at when trying to figure out how to manage diversity. Personality can have a role in diversity and may cause some issues. When dealing with introverted and extraverted personalities, research showed that extraverts became more excited and interested in the task than an introvert did in the same task. The research also showed that extraverts are at more risk of committing errors or omissions than introverts were when completing a tedious task.…
