Say you’re the teacher of a fourth grade elementary class. The class consists of about forty kids, each with different personalities and characteristics that make them extremely unique. Throughout the school year you learn more about each kid. How they do in social situations? Who is the hard worker, or leader? Through observation you identify the more optimistic students compared to the pessimistic ones. Or introverted compared to extroverted. These are all different dispositional traits that you have noticed through the students in your class. In short this experiment concluded their hypothesis that personality does indeed affect longevity (Friedman, Tucker, Tomlinson-Keasey, Schwartz & Wingard, 1993). I was immediately intrigued when I first read over the title of this experiment. It reminded me that even when we are young and growing, our internal clock is still ticking down from the very second your born. Although this may seem like a sad and depressed way to think about it is really not. Mortality is something that no one enjoys thinking about, and it is proven in different social cognition studies that contemplating our own mortality can threaten our Self-Esteem. But, apart of life is death and this should only make you strive for a good life. Aside from that, the reason I chose this study in particular is because it has personal relevance to everyone, being that everybody has some sort of personality. Whether or not the experiment was able to captivate all personalities, lifestyles, and hazards throughout life, etc., of everybody on earth, the idea of linking personality to longevity can be clear to everyone. But to that, there are several issues I have about this study that aren’t allowing me buy into their conclusion totally. Within the data and available participants their test results are proven to be true, but it was said that all the participants were from the same demographic, race (white), class (middle class), and
