(Donald, 2016) Those ratios were also similar to last year’s recording, in which whites made up 50% of the 987 fatal police shootings, and blacks were 26%. (Donald, 2016) So from what I can see here, is that black Americans are not at the top but the white Americans. I feel that because of how and what the media tells us about the police killings in America, is how this came about. People fail to realize that media doesn’t always give us the whole story. I wonder if the media ever spoke about all those others’ lives of innocent peoples that was taken by police. Here is something else I found out. “In the U.S. a total of 509 citizens have been killed this year alone by police. The body count for the previous year stands at a grand total of 990 people shot dead, according to the Washington Post. For many years now homosexuals have been scrutinized by society because who they chose to love and how they chose to live their lives. Till this day there are many homosexuals that are afraid to come out because they fear how they will be treated by family, friends, and the people around them. It has been said that nearly a fifth of the 5,462 so-called single-bias hate crimes reported to the F.B.I. in 2014 were because of the target’s sexual orientation, or, in some cases, their perceived orientation. (Park & Mykhyalyshyn, 2016) To be honest, I feel like that the increase of hate crimes against homosexuals is because of the increase of people who are accepting them for who they are. Even though there are more people that are accepting in the society, they still have issues of being denied the same rights of everyone else. To me it doesn’t make any sense.
