From dodgeball to airball? Many adults when asked think the newer generations are softer, weaker, and less capable. “By age 13 70% of kids have dropped out of organized sports, and often out of physical activity altogether”says Mary Hasson . A key example of a weaker generation is dodgeball, the game has slowly lost it’s thrill over the years. In the old days they played with hardcore rubber balls, now it’s like throwing cotton balls. The Sherwood Middle School News Team watched an athletic student Kaeden Glass play dodgeball at SMS to see if it’s true. Dodgeball at SMS is every early release Wednesday. The PE teachers at SMS always think they need to explain the simple game of Dodgeball every week, over and over again. Kaeden is a top athlete …show more content…
He aimed right for Alara. The ball smashed into the wall right next to her face. He reached down and took a golden ball (yellow) and flung it at her waist. The ball was like a swooping hawk and curved up and up until it made contact with Alara’s face. They broke out laughing but Alara scurried to the back so she wouldn’t get out. Kaeden caught a ball and sent it flying at his 7th grade friend Owen, he tagged him in the foot. As Alara was standing in the back of the room (which in dodgeball at SMS is pretty much a human wall),Kaeden seized the perfect moment and slotted the people. Out of all the spots Kaeden could have hit Alara it greeted face. He ran over to make sure she was fine because he had hit her twice. Alara was perfectly fine, she told Kaeden “it didn’t even sting”. So Kaeden continued with the game. Right before the bell went off Glass fired a fastball randomly. It pounded Alara in the face at close range. It was like getting shot by a sniper at close range. The News Team checked in with Alara and she was not too shabby.
All the evidence is there that dodgeball is changing. Schools have switched from hard dodgeballs made from rubber to plush pillows shaped in a ball. The result of the pillows is that kids can drill each other in the face one foot away without any pain. On the contrary is dodgeball weakening or adapting to a newer generation. Only time will

The catcher made his signal, and the pitcher stared down the batter with an evil eye.…

She speaks of how the parents and coaches near fanatical criteria being imposed are negatively affecting many of the children involved with the sports. The concerns she feels derive from the potential dangers that children in the age ranges of six to twelve are exposed to in all organized sports activities. The dangers she covers are the physical well-being, mental health and anxiety, drop-out rate, and the stresses created by the adults involved in the sport. Dodging enables changes of direction to take place within a game of netball. When performed correctly, a dodge challenges the defending player, making it more difficult to obstruct and intercept the played ball. It can cause the dynamics of the game to change completely, allowing you to avoid the defender by a sudden quick movement. I play wing attack, and occasionally goal attack, therefore it is my job to pass the ball up the court and into our goal. In order to do this, I regularly break free from my defending player by using either a single, double or sprint dodge.…
