In the 90’s Dodge came out with several new models with technological advances, including new sports cars, trucks and sedans. Dodge came out with a new line of sports cars in the 1990’s that competed with many foreign sports cars including the 350z, RX-7, and the Supra. Dodge was producing sports cars that could be driven everyday, but still have the performance and endurance of a track car. The 1991 Dodge Stealth was one of the sports cars that Dodge came out with to compete with the Mitsubishi 3000gt. Dodge wanted a car that would model the Shelby Cobra, so in 1992 Dodge came out with the Viper. The 1992 Viper had side exhaust pipes and an open top the resembled the Shelby Cobra. (DeLorenzo 80) The Viper may have been built to model the Shelby Cobra, but Dodge put its own twist on the car. The Viper came standard with a fuel injected V10. The 8.0 liter V10 created about 400 horsepower stock. A standard 5- speed transmission was behind all that horsepower under the hood. The unique look of the Viper was unlike anything else in the 1990’s. Dodge’s famous cross hair grille was present in the front bumper, along with fog lights. Anyone who owned one of these cars in the 1990’s would definitely turn many heads when they went down the road.
