When you run into one of your former students who is successfully earning their degree you get an amazing feeling that you have made a true difference in their life. This has happened with several of my past students over the years, including my “at-risk” students who were labeled as such for fear that they would not graduate—to help them overcome all odds and do exactly that is what makes teaching so fulfilling. When I resided in Turkey in the third grade, as a military child, my teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I knew immediately that I wanted to be a teacher just like him. Dr. Mossburg, who is now the Chief of Curriculum for DoDEA’s Education Division, made learning fun and exciting. He challenged us to be the best versions of ourselves, which in turn inspired me to do the same for others. My purpose in pursuing an English Master’s online is to further my knowledge to progress in my teaching career at the Community College level or higher. …show more content…
By the time I graduated with my bachelor’s degree I had been married for three years and had a two year old daughter. Despite balancing school and family, I was able to graduate Magna Cum Laude and tested in the top 15% of all test takers for the English Content Knowledge Praxis II test. I continued with my goal to be a teacher by going on to teach French as an adjunct professor at Brigham Young University-Idaho. When my family and I moved to Texas, I was able to teach English at the secondary level and to be a Head Coach. A Master of Arts in English from the University of Texas Permian Basin would give me the level of education and mentorship that I need to achieve my present goal of educating at the collegiate
