“Tuning, Tying, and Training Texts” by Barbara Tomlinson emphasizes on metaphors being a key idea in revising and composing writing. “Patterns of figurative expressions are an important part of our socially shared knowledge of composing and that, as such, they influence our conceptions of composing—and may we influence our composing behavior” (Tomlinson, 58). Basically saying, that metaphors are commonly used to explain feelings and ideas towards the pathway for revising. Just like Lakoff and Johnson say, “we have found that most of our ordinary conceptual system is metaphorical in nature”…

Review of ACARA Documents After the review of ACARA documents in particular History Year 10 () this paper will conclude that a Humanistic worldview taints the overall direction of the prescriptive curriculum allowing for a personalized model of learning in flexible classrooms. Underpinning this view are the key proponents of Maslow, Roger and Knowles whom research in terms of self actualization, teacher as facilitator have moved away from the pre enlightenment era of teacher directed, conforming and competition driven instruction. While hints of other worldviews arise such as post modernism one could argue there has been a deliberate omit of Christian worldview. Calvin Christian School set up in 1962 marked the dissonance in mainstream…
Vampirism: It is Only Human In How to Read Literature like a Professor, written by Thomas C. Foster, the point is made that vampires do not have to be the stereotypical bloodsuckers often encountered on TV and in horror tales. Vampires can be symbolized by regular humans as long as they have the qualities of a vampire. He does not mean fangs or bats; however, he means to say that vampires have certain goals and many characters in stories have these same goals. The people that symbolize vampires usually target young women, which are linked to their virginity; they seek to put their own nefarious goals above other people’s wellbeing, and seek to drain the life from people.…

Like many works of social history that primary source material are first person material such as personal correspondence, memoirs, or diaries. This type of source material is the bread and butter of any social history and in some areas of history is abundant. One of the key early indicators of a change in Germany society came in the a decline in sociability. Long before people entered the gas chambers German Jews died a social death. This connection with friends, co-workers, authority figures, and even strangers was extremely difficult to get best for Jews, especially women.…
Despite the Framers’ disapproval of democracy and their intentions to establish a republican form of government, most, if not all, of the Americans today believe in the system of democracy. Some argue that the U.S. Constitution is democratic in itself, while others argue that it is far from it. In this essay, I will qualify the statement that the U.S. Constitution is a democratic document with two main points. While I concede to the point that the Constitution includes democratic elements such as the Bill of Rights, federalism, and the setup of the House of Representative, the electoral college and the Senate are exemplifies how the Constitution deviates away from the definition of democracy, a form of government that follows the rules of the…
The skill and techniques utilised by practitioners of NLP enable them to break learned behaviours or habits and create new ones. If you force yourself to get up early and go for a run, before work or the kids then this requires effort. If you persevere for 30 days then it will become a habit which requires very little effort. Through NLP you can learn how to shortcut this habit forming process. Your mind and the minds of others are there for the training.…
Word associations consist of reading words and the person must respond with the first word that comes to mind. I played a version of word association during elementary school following the basic rule but never viewed it as a psychodynamic therapy. This experience, however, was the first time I viewed word association in a therapeutic format. I did not know what to expect and did not know what type of meaning word association gives. I was hesitant at the beginning of the process because word association seemed more like a game than a revealing of the unconscious mind.…

The idea that the purpose of a text, or representational medium, enables a deeper understanding rather than an ultimate truth is highly reflected in Mark Baker’s 1997 biographical novel The Fiftieth Gate and Roman Polanski’s 2002 autobiography-adapted film The Pianist. Both texts explore how the objective of history and memory focuses on the interaction between these two notions and their limitations rather than the ultimate truth. The deeper understanding gained of these two texts have shown that history is objective but lacks the personal, and memory is subjective and fragmented but complements history in developing the spiritual and psychological effects on the witnesses. Baker attempts to recount and validate his parent’s stories and expand on the memory of the Holocaust of WWII. Similarly,…
