Doctoral Program Goal

A doctoral program provides training to students in using a wide range of statistical tools in addition to analytical and critical thinking skills. Knowledge of research methods as well as implementation, management, and evaluation of research projects are a few valuable transferrable skills, which a student can get from a doctoral program. Social science doctoral programs provide these basic transferable skills and opportunities to network with some social and mental health agencies depending on the scope of the program. Additionally, I have over three years of experience in developing and managing projects. My goal is to get Six-Sigma Yellow Belt certification, which will help me to learn some of the quality and process management skills. In addition to achieving academic and professional goals as a student and a therapist, I want to transfer my knowledge and skills to explore a new career path of business or service analyst. I am trying to learn some of the software, which can help me in acquiring additional knowledge and tools. Mastering some of the advanced statistical tools as well as GIS software, which are available to instructors through the University of Kentucky, are the key areas of my focus besides completing my doctoral program requirements. I am also trying to develop a project to learn the application of some of the knowledge and skills I have so far in addition to working with some of the professors on their projects. I believe in what Walt Whitman has said, “…I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes.” Yes, I contradict myself going against my passion of what I actually wanted to be- I think a career path is a making and unmaking process of many possibilities as I contain
