Doctor Seuss Lessons

I believe that the lessons of Doctor Seuss are the keys to a healthy happy lifestyle. His first lesson is to be yourself, to stand out, and to say what needs to be said. He reminds me that sometimes the hardest thing of all is standing out and saying what needs to be said, even if you stand alone. “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.” Another quintessential moral Seuss provides us with is that fact that in each of us lies the ability to change the world. When I was younger one of my favorite activities was hiking up to this old creak behind my house. Personally, I believe that the best way to change the world is to help influence those around you and to help educate them …show more content…
At first, it was impossible to gain support from our fellow students, but the more we had advertised, and the more we helped educate our peers the more support we had gained. Our club had taken the time to try and fix a problem we had cared about. Dr. Seuss reminds us that “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, It’s not. Next, what I believe to be the foundation of Seuss’s teachings is that reading is fundamental to a good and healthy lifestyle. Reading has always been able to transport people to different worlds, times, and universes. Reading is the strongest investment you can start. Seuss likes to say, “The more you read the more you’ll know, the more you know the more places you’ll go.” Finally, my favorite and probably the simplest of the Seuss school of philosophy is that success is always within reach. Sometimes goals may not come easily, the journey may take days, weeks, months, and years to reach your goal. Whether you’re in a car or on a train, or on a boat and in the rain, success is a place we all can reach. So today is your day you’re off to great places your off and away, and I believe that I can achieve. I will succeed, “yes indeed! yes indeed! ninety-eight and three-quarters percent

“I refused to fail” (653), declares Alexie Sherman. In life all of us will eventually encounter something that becomes our passion. Something that acts as our drive in day to day life and changes the way we see the world. For Alexie Sherman reading books became his life’s passion, he claims in his essay “The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me” that his life was saved through books and that he is now trying to save other lives with books and writing. Reading saves a life by allowing him to feel like something other than a stereotypical Indian boy, by giving him a drive to succeed, and also by leading him to teach others to enjoy reading and writing in way that can save their lives too.…

Seuss tries to make it evident that it is not okay to abandon your children and leave them alone but it also is entirely different to watch them sit and do nothing. He makes you aware of the fact that, even though it’s raining outside the children are simply going to, “sit sit sit sit”. I cannot emphasis how much this is like today’s society when all children do is sit on electronics and not interact with the real world and outside. They are not reading or doing something that is going to benefit them in the long run. When reading Seuss I think one of his best characteristics is his ability to make you aware of a social or political problem but yet in a way that is entertaining.…

All of Dr. Seuss’ children books have one thing in common; teaching the readers a valuable lesson. For example, think about his popular book The Cat in The Hat, the kids welcome the cat in to their house and the cat ends up destroying the house and making a huge mess. The lesson hidden within this story is to be careful who you invite in to your life, they may cause big problems. Dr. Seuss is a very unique author; he successfully wrote children’s books with lessons within them that most adults never understand. In “Superman and Me”, Sherman Alexie writes about his struggle to get the education he desired. This piece brings to life that reading can open doors and pave the way for a brighter future for you and those around you regardless of the situation. Alexie starts off his essay by setting the stage and giving an inside look as to how the story began with nothing more than a “Superman” comic. As a three-year-old boy, he would sit and narrate the comic by pictures alone, not knowing how to read a single word but knowing that the pictures had to be describing the same story as the words were telling. Alexis states, because he is breaking down the door, I assume he says, “I am breaking down the door.”…

In his speech, “Why our Future depends on libraries, reading, and daydreaming” Neil Gaiman discusses the importance of reading books fostering literacy and imagination, especially for children. Whether it is fiction or non-fiction or any other genre, Gaiman supports people’s freedom of reading whatever they desire. Reading can only be beneficial in the end and people can learn much from books. Gaiman’s reasoning and use of rhetoric allow his argument to be persuasive to the audience he is presenting to. His main purpose is that more people should have a desire to read in this modern world even with the rapid rise of technology, not only to gain knowledge and learn but to allow their imagination to run free and become an intelligent citizen of society.…
