We believe identity is important because it’s who we are and it separates all of us from one another. It is what makes us unique and stand out or else life as we know to would be extremely boring if we were all the same. However thanks to our identity we are not, in a good way. We presume that we choose and make our identity. Our first rationale is that we choose how we think and our memories contribute to our identity. Second, is we can choose our image or how we look, which is what we call our “physical identity.”

For example, when your friends say something about you, others tend to believe that is your identity. As long as you know you own identity, then what others say really don't matter, because you choose who you are. In the text “Mirror Image”, it states, “I have to get to know you better…what, fourteen years wasn't enough.” This means that her sister doest feel like she has the same identity, even though she has the same soul, just different identity. His sister may not believe she doesn't but if Jenny thinks she does, then she does. As long as you believe you have a certain identity, then you do.
Our authentic identity and “physical identity” are chosen by us. This is important because we need to know we choose our paths for ourselves and that they aren’t the combined decisions of others. If we believe we are the authors of our actions and thoughts, it is clear to see that our identity is what we make of it. A lesson here is, be who you are.
