Do Violent Video Games Cause Violence Essay

Are violent video games the cause of violence shown by young people? Does playing them increase the rate of a violent crime being committed? Should they be allowed to continue playing these games? Across the world, there has been an increase in the amount of young people who play violent video games. Many have blamed these games for the horrible crimes committed by young people, more specifically, the recent shootings that have taken place. Others say the games don't cause this behavior. Most games can be as violent as war, while others show depictions of hunting animals. Although it seems like playing violent games might have caused these violent acts to be committed, violent video games are played by many others, but yet they have never carried out such violent crimes. Video games don’t seem to be the cause of these happenings because, evidence can’t support the claim that violent games are the cause of crimes like shootings, many people around the world play these games but only a few have chosen to commit a violent crime, and video games like these are not the only factor to violent behavior. …show more content…
As stated in the text, “Do Video Games Lead to Violence?”, Whitney DeCamp, who is a professor in sociology, states that evidence points to either no relation between playing violent games and violent behavior, or there is a very insignificant link. He has also conducted a study of his own, in which the results showed that playing video games, no matter how bloody, did not result in violence. Although games like these could give a person an idea on vicious acts, it does not necessarily mean they’ll act upon them. If savage video games supposedly cause young people to commit horrendous acts, then why isn’t the 97% of children who play them committing these crimes? If the games are causing the violence, then shouldn’t most, if not all, of the people who play them choose to act
