“Do the benefits of bottled water overweigh the cost?”
Many people choose bottled water over tap water worldwide. Which is really better for our health? Somewhere at some point in time someone came up with the idea of doing away with tap water and moving onto bottled water. It is a common belief that the bottled water is more reasonably priced as well as safer due to the purification process that it undergoes, meaning the water has been cleansed from all the dirty and poisonous toxins that it may have previously contained. Others belief that tap water is better for our environment and less costly. There are now certain policy makers trying to reduce the amount of bottled water consumed and encourage people to drink tap water. There are many U.S. colleges that are curbing, banning, or restricting the sale and use of bottled plastic containers. The question is, “Do the benefits of bottled water overweigh the cost?” My answer is absolutely not.

According to the Archives of family medicine, researchers compared bottled water with tap water from Cleveland, and found that nearly a quarter of the samples of bottled water had significantly higher levels of bacteria. Tap water is more strictly monitored, tested, and regulated than bottled water. The New York City tap water, just in the year of 2004 was tested 430,600 times. Some have to be careful due to the conditions they may already be in that make them more vulnerable to getting sick from contaminants in drinking water. The people in this group are the ones undergoing chemotherapy, being pregnant, HIV/AIDS, or have received a transplant can be at risk.
