Saillenfest and Dessalles ask the question, can believable characters act unexpectedly? The Knife Story is provided as an example to further illustrate this question. The story explains that John and Mary are true lovers with growing love, and on a Tuesday breakfast with John, Mary goes to the kitchen, grabs a knife, returns and stabs John in the back. With the short information provided, Mary stabbing John does not make sense, and therefore Mary’s character suffers from lack of believability due to the lack of an explanation, which can restore her intentions and believability. However, despite the deficiency of believability, the story had taken an unexpected, interesting turn in events.…

Not only does reading literature help many readers realize how privileged they are in comparison to the characters in the novel, but it also helps individuals appreciate their identities through the process of empathizing. For me, reading variations of literature helped me develop a connection to the characters while simultaneously comparing their own situations to that of the written piece. Reading my book club novel allowed me to empathize, and show concern for the well-being of others. Literature helps me learn from the mistakes of others, and it gives me the ability to appreciate my strengths and weaknesses.…

Speaking about the image presented, I think that this is a terrible ad to display. The waist trainer corset expressing that this product is on a quick way of looking thing and curvy. I think this is cheating the body and is only a temporary solution in looking thin. Clearly, this is an elusion because the corset is forcing the belly to be suctioned in, so the outlook seems to give the body a large bust, small waist, and large bottom. Thus, I feel strongly against the image, since it is trying to advertise a product that makes a body look deceiving of the natural true beauty of a real body.…

Fictional stories allow people to have more empathy for the stories they read and allows people to have more insight on human behavior and society. Furthermore I truly think people will build up a wall to real stories and just pass it off as a ,it just happens because life sucks, type of deal but when it’s fictional people are more accepting of these stories and can fully invest themselves in them because they are tired of these depressing stories of real life instead they get a form of an "escape" a sort of another world they can invest themselves in and have more empathy . For instance, All American boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely This is about a kid named Rashad and a kid named Quinn. Rashad was badly beaten by a police officer that assumed that Rashad was either stealing a bag of chips or hurting a lady that was in the store buying…

In his well-known article “Fiction and Non-fiction”, Kendall Walton introduces his theory of fiction as a game of make believe, in which representational art can be presumed as props that impose specific imaginings. Furthermore, Walton’s 1978 paper “Fearing Fictionally” addresses the paradox of fiction i.e. how can we be moved by things that do not exist in the case of fiction? The following paper will critically assess how Walton’s position in ‘Fearing Fictionally’ is related to his argument in ‘Fiction and Non Fiction’. In fiction and non-fiction, Walton’s fundamental notion is that of the term ‘representation’, which he often uses interchangeably with ‘fiction’.…

People never expect to have a happy ever after but for some reason we are able to connect and desire the lives the characters have. Fictional characters tend to have a connection with their audience because the writer always seems to make characters very relatable even if their lives are far fetched. The three fictional characters that most represent my personality are Hermione Granger from Harry Potter for the way she always has a sarcastic response when she replies to Harry and Ron, Moana from the movie Moana for her curiosity and her will to always follow her heart, and Jasmine from Aladdin because she always does what is right and enjoys having a loving connecting with animals.
