Do People Deserve A Second Chance

Improved Essays
Do people really deserve a second chance? It really depends on the situation, personally I think if someone, is mean and grumpy all the time, sure, they deserve a second chance, because they can change, like Scrooge from A Christmas Carol, he is always mean and grumpy at the beginning, and at the end, he's so nice and happy. You have to do so much to get a second chance, and really show you’ve changed, but even if you do it will always, find a way back to you.
I’m more on the side that, everybody doesn't deserve a second chance, because if you go down a bad path in life, mess stuff up, and get into bad things, God doesn’t give you another chance. Sure you can change, if you’re addicted to cigarettes or alcohol, you can choose to go to a rehab

What I do not believe that a person demonstrated criminal behavior in the past can't change permanently. The reason to that is that people get in and out of trouble every single day. One of them is that in the book "The Outsiders" Dally the man the went to jail when he was a young boy never change when he got older. When he got older he did worse things like robbing stores and cars even. The big reason is that when people go into jail and come back to the outside world they still do huge criminal crimes that everyone will know about.…

In some instances such as physical abuse and molestation of infants and young children forgiveness may seem unattainable, but it is always possible. The next story I am going to tell you about is of an abusive relationship between a father, Patrick, and his daughter, Maeve. When Maeve was nine, her father “came into the bathroom when she was showering and had her perform oral sex on him” (72). He convinced her that it was just their “special time” (72) seeing as she wouldn’t know at that age that he was doing something heinous and…

Many people consider forgiveness as a virtue and something desirable. Nevertheless, people define it differently, probably depending on circumstances. As Jeffrie Murphy puts it, forgiveness is the forswearing of resentment- the resolute overcoming of the anger and hatred that are naturally directed toward a person who has done an unjustified and non-excused moral injury. According to this statement, forgiveness is directly related to moral obligation from individuals. It suggests that unjustified moral injury to a person may cause anger and hatred that can only be overcome through forgiveness.…

It’s a difficult call for many individuals about whether or not to punish individuals or help them become a better person. While some crimes are inexcusable and lead to life in jail or even the death penalty so can more petty crimes which brings up the case as to whether or not both groups of individuals belong in the same place and if they deserve a chance to be brought back into society. In the Ted Talk by Adam Foss about a prosecutor 's view on the justice system, Foss explains how many individuals can correct themselves and move on to a new path of life. Similarly, Jessica S. Henry explained how the justice system is also flawed and how individuals can be helped and how the process can be improved. The justice system is flawed and that…

Repentance is another important factor in achieving redemption. It is more spiritual than asking for forgiveness for things you have wrongfully done. God has to be put first and there has to be a change of heart. There has to be willingness to abort any sin and admit their faults, then emotional peace can be achieved. Individuals are neither born good or evil, but display equal capability for both.…

Interaction My initial response to the concept of forgiveness therapy for abuse survivors was that it seemed counter-intuitive, as it can be perceived to excuse the abusive behavior and invalidate the suffering of the victim. However, this impression fails to acknowledge the therapeutic definition of forgiveness as used in therapy, a release of resentment (Reed & Enright, 2006). Upon review of this definition of forgiveness therapy, I concluded that it was in line with other therapeutic ideals that encourage release of negative thought patterns and encourage the construction of positive thought patterns and behaviors.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

The child is a criminal or the criminal is a child was a question asked at the beginning of the semester, the stance I took then is the same stance I take now, the criminal is a child. While I don’t believe every single child can be compared to one another without the ability to exclude some from the group, I believe looking at this approach as the criminal is a child is the best way to go. When deciding why I stand by my earlier stance, I looked at what our goal was and why we have consequence for our actions. Our country has the goal that by sentencing children to jail or prison we want them to be rehabilitated to re-join society. Our goal is for them to learn a lesson from the punishment and never commit another crime . . .…

Can Justice and Forgiveness go Hand in Hand? Justice and forgiveness can go hand in hand. Forgiveness can mean many things, but true forgiveness is releasing the feelings of vengeance and resentment towards a person. Justice can also have multiple meanings, but true justice means when an offender repents on their wrongdoings and reconciles with their victims. When an immoral person receives retributive justice, it causes them to reflect on their wrongdoings, letting them become a better person when they are forgiven.…

The Youth Criminal Justice Act Yes I believe that The Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA) is effective. This act was recently created in 2003 and serves the purpose of protecting and fairly treating young offenders. It allows them to be tried in a youth court as opposed to an adult one, protects their identities, provides lighter sentences and creates more rehabilitating programs. This act rehabilitates in a positive and nurturing environment, allowing the offender to reach their full potential which has positive long-term effects.…
