Do Ho Suh Analysis

Do Ho Suh is a sculptor and installation artist known for some of his creative artwork, such as Public figures and Some/One. Majority of his artworks are located in environments such as sculptural spaces for which viewers can visually explore. One of his interesting artworks, some/one consist of thousands of dog tags that are assembled in an interlocking pattern that are used as building blocks. It is quite interesting because Do Ho Suh used to be in the military, and I think majority of his inspiration comes from being in the military. Some/One resembles not only one identity, but thousands of identities into one form of artwork. Another one of Do Ho Suh unique artworks is Public Figures. It is comprised of six hundred mini figures that are seen holding up a modeled platform. Some may question why there is not one heroic figure on the stop of the platform, however, I think Do Ho Suh placed the tiny figures on the bottom because behind every hero are others who helped along the way. The platform looks as if it is made out of clay and shaped into brick like shapes. …show more content…
The way I see it based off of his artwork is being in the military has impacted him tremendously throughout his life. In some ways, the life he had in the military will always be apart of him, and a place that he looked back at as his home. According to the video, Do Ho Suh explains that after he arrived to the United States from Korea, he noticed two very different cultures and the issues that came between it. I think what inspires Suh is his life growing up in Korea, his life from school, and then transitioning to the military. He talks about how when you are young, you already know you will have to join the military, shave off your hair, wear the same uniforms and you were referred to as numbers. He describes it as being “traumatizing” for some. I think that military had a huge impact in the way that Do Ho Suh creates his

Songs are poems set to music. They come in all different varieties, genres and styles but often the message conveyed is similar. In modern music the message or theme usually relates to love or substance abuse. A few decades ago, the messages were comparable, and even though society was quite different then, the themes in music were relatively the same. Two such examples are “Come a Little Bit Closer” by Jay and the Americans and “A Woman Needs Love” by Ray Parker Jr. Both of these songs share a common idea of women cheating.…

The reason waving through a window from Dear Evan Hansen is the best song is because it perfectly describes living a life that’s full of fear and anxiety otherwise known as Generalized anxiety disorder (gad). The song describes the feeling of fear that no one will ever notice you in bridge of the song. “When you’re falling in the forest and there’s nobody around do you ever really crash or even make a sound?” This is coupled with lines earlier in the song that describe the fear of being seen. “Give them no reason to stare, no slipping up if you slip away.”…

The Question of Hu by Jonathan D. Spence reconstructs the journey of Father Jean-Francois Foucquet and John Hu from China to Europe during mid-seventeenth century. Throughout the book, Spence addresses several issues on cultural differences between China and Europe, with their varied definitions of sanity, moral obligation, and social status. Hu’s question, after spending almost three years in a lunatic asylum, “why have I been locked up?” raises the question whether Hu is insane or not. Spence provides both supporting and contradicting evidences for Hu’s insanity leaving us to evaluate and come up with a conclusion on our own. My conclusion is that Hu is not clinically insane; he is mistreated and misunderstood by people around him.…
