A do-gooder is someone who performs kind and generous acts in order to make themselves feel like they’ve changed the world around them for the better. They seem to only perform these good deeds for their own personal glory and for bragging rights. An example of a do-gooder would be a PTA mom who only argues with the school board for the “benefit” of the students and their education. This PTA mom does not care about the students as much as she does the attention arguing with the board gives her; she only seems to care about what doing these deeds can do for her own personal image and not how her supposed acts of kindness …show more content…
They do not care about the attention and glory performing the acts of heroism could bring; they merely want to do what is right in their minds and ensure that the people who are affected by their decision are safe. John McCain could be considered a hero because he willingly endured torture to honor US military code. When he was offered release from the Hoa Lo prison in Vietnam, he refused and stated that he could not be released until the other prisoners, who had been there for a longer period of time, were released as the US military code stated. His defiance of the Vietnamese led to him being brutally beaten and sent to a closet sized isolation cell. McCain put the military code over his own life, fully knowing what was going to happen after he refused; no supposed do-gooder could ever complete a task of this level, which is why they can’t be considered
