People claim that the steroid era is over, but the fact of the matter is steroid use is still very common in today’s professional sports. In Forbes magazine, Josh Smith states that performance enhancing drugs and treatments have become the biggest scourge of professional sports leagues(Smith). Each year multiple people are banned from their respective sports for use of performance enhancing drugs or PEDs. Instead of the same thing happening every day, new thing would happen. Athletes are always trying to get an edge on their opponents. One way they can do this is by using drugs such as steroids to enhance their performance. Even though drugs like this are banned in all sports, many players still attempt to get away with using them. Athletes are divided into two groups: those using and those not using, why not make it possible for everyone to use the drugs at their own risk. If the athletes choose to use the drugs and it results in negative side effects, it was their choice. Athletes would not be forced to use the drugs. The drugs may have a huge impact for players that use them, however not all records would be broken easily. Take baseball for example. Some people would say that the home run record would be shattered because players would be stronger and would hit the ball farther. However, hitters would not be the only ones taking the drugs to make them better. Pitchers would be able to throw harder and get more movement on their pitches to limit how many pitches actually get hit. If the hitters still have an advantage over the pitches, the people that make the rules for the MLB could raise the pitching mound higher in the air to make the ball harder to hit. All sports would be impacted and adjustments would be made. The reason for this is that players would be much more advanced than they ever have been before. New saftey equipment would have to be made to adjust for the harder hits and the faster player. Along with the enhanced players would come the entertainment.
