How do advertisers target teens as a separate audience. Most advertisers use strategies that are meant to manipulate specific consumer groups into wanting and buying more stuff. Teens/youth are one of these specific consumer groups, therefore, the advertisers advertise products that would be appealing to most teens. They find out how to get their product to teens, weather that may be through TV commercials, social media advertising, or website sponsors.According to the website, Mediasmarts,Kids represent an important demographic to marketers because in addition to their own purchasing power (which is considerable) they influence their parents’ buying decisions and are the adult consumers of the future. As a result, industry spending on advertising to children has exploded over the past two decades, for example, in the United States alone, companies spent over $17 billion doing this in 2009 – more than double what was spent in the 1900s, in this case, advertisers target teens as a separate audience. Teens are today's buyers because they have money and nothing to spend it on but themselves. They influence a lot but are influenced by a number of different things. Teens have money but nothing to spend it on but themselves. This is why advertisers project their product to appeal to the eyes of today's youth. Teens have many influences. Eighty-one percent of teens say they are influenced on what to purchase, based on their friends.Sixty-eight percent say they are influenced by ads in a magazine.
