Dmitri Mendeleev is the creator of the first periodic table. Dmitri was born on February 8, 1834, in Verkhnie Aremzyani, Russia to a family of 16. His dad was a teacher, who went blind. His mom ran a glass factory. At the age of 13, his dad died. Dmitri decided to go to college when he was 16. He applied to the same college his dad went to, and was accepted partially because they knew his dad. He studied to become a teacher there. When he was 20, he graduated at the top of his class. Then, Dmitri got a job as a science teacher at 21, but returned to college a year later to study chemistry. After graduating again, he worked as a teacher and a chemist.

Dmitri won an award for his work that allowed him to travel to Germany. There he worked
