Prejudice is a feeling towards someone based on their affiliation with a group. It is one step further than a stereotype. A stereotype is an assumption made about someone based on preconceived opinions. For example, a boy named Matt meets a girl named Kate. Kate is a vegetarian, but Matt is not. Because Matt has an uncle who is a vegetarian and does not like cats. He thinks that Kate also does not like cats. If Matt were to decide he doesn't like Kate because she is a vegetarian and does not like cats, then this would be an example of prejudice. This is happening not only with grown adults, but also with children in school. Children can be bullied because of prejudice. It's not a secret that the world would be a better place if there was no such thing as prejudice. Than why does it still exist? The answer is quite plain: it exists because we allow it to. It is simply human nature. Back in 1619 for example, American colonists had never seen black people before, never got to know who they were, what they believed in, why they did what they did, and immediately thought of themselves as superiors. This continued prejudice led to the Civil War fought between the northern states and the southern states. The northern states believing that slavery was not the right thing to do, and the south (who relied on the slaves for all of their agriculture) believed that we should keep slavery. 620,000 soldiers died due to the Civil War. In Brown vs. Board of Education (1954) the supreme court outlawed segregated public education facilities for blacks and whites at the state level and the Civil rights act of 1964 ended all state and local laws requiring segregation, finally putting an end to segregation.And once again all of this horrific mess winds up back to when those first white men thought they were superior to the blacks because
