Uncle Ruckus would have been one of the people in the crowd cheering for Daniel to play a song like “Dixie”, although both characters are members of the African American community. In the episode titled, “The Story of Jimmy Rebel” Uncle Ruckus finds himself in a position where he makes an album with Jimmy Rebel, who is a famous, racist country-western singer. Both Daniel and Uncle Ruckus were put in a position where they could have either fought for their race, or let their race be humiliated. Daniel fought for his race, and through signifying, stole a powerful racist song away from the whites. He believed that the song should belong to the blacks, not the whites. After all, the song reminisces being in the land of cotton, land the slaves, not the whites, created. Uncle Ruckus did the complete opposite by making music with a famed racist artist. Sarah amuses Daniel by saying she wishes she could have heard him sing. She then follows this by annoying Daniel by saying to him, “Do you think I should paint my nails?” Painting ones nails was something that Daniel saw as an attribute which white people take part in, but not black people. Interesting how Daniel was not amused by the idea of signifying something as little as painting your nails, but was capable to take over a song and flag, which were so negative to black people.
Later on, Daniel and Sarah decided to go to the grocery store Piggly Wiggly. While at the store, Daniel purchased a bulletin full of pictures of local cars and trucks for sale right before checking out, in aspiration to purchase a truck with a Confederate flag decal. The next day, Daniel had arranged to meet with a married couple, Travis and Barb, to look at their Ford truck, which of course, sported a Confederate flag decal on the rear
