The rise of feminism in society has taken a toll on divorce rates. One of the causes in divorces in the presence of women in the workforce. In a society where the there is a stigma of gender bias, in which men must be the breadwinner in the household, there would be conflict when women start stepping up the workforce ladder. Prior to women joining the workforce they were typically caretakers, they tended for their families, and homes. During that time these women would not leave their marriages because if they left their husbands they would be left penniless. Women being present in the workforce create less of a dependence upon men. Some men find it difficult to accept the woman 's position in the workforce or their lack of need for them financially.
