Everybody has a group of morals and ethics that they hold true to, but what really are morals and ethics. Most people can explain what their personal and even societal ethics are, but no one can seem to define them. To me, ethics are an agreed upon, by society, set of rules and guidelines that everyone should follow. Different people may have different ethics for different situations though. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines ethics as “the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). She explains how security is tight around the office and the door always stays locked. People are so strongly opinionated on this issue, there’s a chance that someone will do something tragic to these clinics. She states “we are too busy to chew over ethics” (Tisdale, 653). Even though she’s against it, she is looking at it as helping people, helping people that would be worse off if this didn’t happen. People that could hurt the child if it was born. The clinic does so many abortions that there’s no sense in worrying about the ethics anymore. It’s just a routine for her, it’s what she does. This is also a huge issue of choice. In the same paragraph Tisdale explains that “abortion is a matter of choice, privacy, and control” (Tisdale 653). She doesn’t believe that it should be her choice to choose if these people should get an abortion or not. They should choose if they want it and it should only be their choice. The control part of that quote has to do with the sides of the ethical issue. People want to control other people and and their bodies. It boils down to people getting to choose what’s ethical and what’s not. The bigger part of the issue of abortion is the idea of choice and letting the mother decide if the baby should live. That child has no voice to speak up and say something before it’s killed. The mother and the doctor are the ones that decide the fate of that baby.
