Diversity is all around us. Diversity is our individual differences “in terms of age, ethnicity, gender, race, or other dimensions” (2015, P.327). These are differences that we cannot get away from in our personal and professional life even if we try to. Diversity is a part of what makes America great. In a workplace, we can learn from one another’s diversities. Diverse employees can work together making a company great. Diversity sparks innovation. By having many people from all different areas in life helps businesses because you get many different perspectives. Not everyone thinks alike especially when they come from different ethnicities, culture, and sexual orientation. This allows business to help connect with the public or groups that they were not able to connect with previously. “According to the results of one study, companies that rate high on creativity and innovation have a higher percentage of women and nonwhite male employees than less innovative companies” (Daft, P.330) Daft states that “…today’s organizations are …show more content…
Many companies, colleges, and even the military have a certain amount of quota’s to fill when hiring minorities. This is a good step in having a more diverse workforce but we cannot stop there. Just because someone is hired in does not mean that they will advance. Leaders need to take advantage of having such a diverse workforce and not be afraid to advance someone based off their gender, ethnicity, culture, or age. Leaders and everyone in the workforce needs to get it out of their head that a certain person only got hired because of affirmative action.
