Diversity is a buzzword in today’s society. I think diversity is not a coalition of different races on a school flier, or bulletin board or on the school newspaper. Diversity is a sharing and embracing each other’s individual beliefs, cultures and thoughts. I would like to see advocacy more than sympathy because advocacy helps people who are disengaged. No matter where we are coming from or no matter how we look like, we should create a way all together that support, advocate and promote the differences in a harmony.

Opportunities
Our school fosters diverse learning community so I have the opportunity to learn more about our students’ cultures, food and religion.
Students are offered four different world languages as an elective choice so it helps them to understand each other well.
Our school organizes several multicultural events throughout the year in order to promote cultural awareness.
One of our faculty members is good at using technology in his classroom; we have the opportunity learn more about Universal Design for Learners (UDL). Threats
If a teacher does not understand the cultural differences between his/her culture and students’ cultures the teacher cannot reach all of his/her students.
If we do not respect the diversity of student and staff, we cannot create a safe learning environment.

Our school has a diverse faculty population, which know the student needs, culture, and parental expectations. Teachers are encouraged to work collaboratively with their colleague and plan their lessons in order to meet the needs of individual students. Teachers and school administration know the importance of how cultural beliefs affect student achievement, therefore, classroom instruction, school calendar, events are planned accordingly in order to increase student learning.
