Diversity Mission Statement

Decent Essays
I think that you are correct in the fact that a lot of organizations do have a diversity mission statement to help in fulfilling the legality of policies and procedures. It is sad that often times as women, we do still see not many changes in the way things are handled, like your situation. I think we as American have tried to take a step in the right direction, but I feel like the media in some aspect hinders the perspective of individual to not fully take a step forward without eventually having us take a step back, not just as it relates to women, but all diversity. Our textbook tells us all people should be treated with respect and dignity, and that in our dealing with people we must have an eyes-level approach (Manning & Curtis, 2008).

Diversity Strategic Plan In order to properly fulfill the mission statement of Florence Schools it is important to lay out a clear and concise plan for how to properly achieve those goals. Moreover, as we seek to prepare students to compete in the global and diverse world; it is important that we give them the tools to be successful. This is why the plan seeks to properly ensure that we are pushing low achieving minority students to a success; while at the same time promoting within high achieving minority students the ability to flourish academically. Likewise, according to the research due to our racially diverse classrooms; it is important that children see themselves reflected in different perspectives, and that teaching and learning reflects…

The Trouble with Diversity: Racial, Ethnic and Cultural Identity The study of diversity is widely exploited in political circuits in United States of America. Engaged from the presidential and ministerial speeches, it fits into their arguments without assessing the distortions that such a sequence suppose. Diversity is not a paradigm of equality. On this point, Walter Benn Michaels’s in his essay “The Trouble with Diversity: How We Learned to Love Identity and Ignore Inequality” allows to grasp some dimensions because "when it replaced the struggle for equality, the commitment diversity has weakened the political levees that contained the liberal thrust "(Michaels 2). In fact, despite the speech to deliberate accents claiming to provide visibility…

Based on my skills, work experience and leadership experience, this program both complements my experience and aligns with my professional goals Growing up in the Washington D.C area, fascination with the great history that not only surrounds this country, but also defines the unique American experience, was a natural attraction for me. Living near the Washington Monument and other beautiful memorials; the magnitude of the efforts that made the United States a reality, were sources of great reflection for me as a kid in Arlington, VA. This reflection and a sense of awe led me to the realization that sometimes it only required one person or one idea to spark a movement…

An interesting topic that has been on my radar more than ever recently is the idea of the social justice group by the name of Black Lives Matter this group continues to rise questions and controversy because of their actions. Black Lives Matter was created in 2012 following the controversial court case over the killing of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman which the court decided to not indict him on murder charges, because of this there was a large social uprising against the decision which in turn created the group. Black Lives Matter mission statement is “Black Lives Matter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society. Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes.”…

Institutional Racism Over the last century, America has taken legislative action to prevent acts of racism and discrimination from penetrating society. Laws such as the 1964 civil rights act were established to provide equal treatment to all, regardless of race, gender or ethnic background. In 1954 the Supreme court ruled on the case, “Brown V Board of Education” stating “We conclude that in the field of public education the doctrine of 'separate but equal ' has no place. Separate educational facilities are inherently unequal” (Administrative office of U.S. courts, 2016). While these laws eliminated many forms of segregation and racism, tension between minority and majority dominant groups still remains in American society.…
