“As visibility and awareness of transgender people increases more parents. Counselors and healthcare providers are learning about the importance of supporting transgender youth. Educators and school administrators are also working to affirm these students, recognizing the every child deserves an opportunity to thrive in school. All Educators- whether or not they have a transgender student in their school can benefit from instituting better interventions when bias and bullying arise, and fostering gender-inclusive learning environments to preclude the need for such interventions all together.” (Orr, Baum, pg 10) My first hand experience with this proved valuable as we reviewed our school-age child care program looking for areas we were gender specific. After the review and changes we had a student who went through a gender identification change start in our program. Both the student and parents were so thankful for the environment created for their child.
