In “The Warren Harding Error: Why We Fall for Tall, Dark, and Handsome Men”, it mentions this particular phenomenon by describing a study that was done on car salesmen. A group of people that were white or black, male or female, and had the exact same cover story of a highly educated person were sent into a car dealership to discuss prices on cars. The study showed that black women were started at the highest price, whereas white males were started at the lowest price. This is because of the Warren Harding Effect that causes people who are attractive, tall, and white to be automatically assumed wealthier or more qualified for a certain job. These are second judgments that are being made, which is why the Project Implicit study is relevant. This study gives the participant a small amount of time to make each of the decisions required. Determining whether a teacher has a certain preference over one race or another is especially important because of the fact that the South has more than half of schools being minority students. The Teaching Tolerance website has many different activities and lesson plans that are about many different types of diversity. One activity that encompasses all of this is entitled, “Who Do They Think We Are?” This activity requires students to watch videos on how depiction of various groups has changed. They will also watch a video on advertising and how it targets some groups and stereotypes others. The students will point out stereotypes and prejudice, and then discuss them.
