I am writing to express my interest in the Federal Diversity Initiative Program. Based on my skills, work experience and leadership experience, this program both complements my experience and aligns with my professional goals
Growing up in the Washington D.C area, fascination with the great history that not only surrounds this country, but also defines the unique American experience, was a natural attraction for me. Living near the Washington Monument and other beautiful memorials; the magnitude of the efforts that made the United States a reality, were sources of great reflection for me as a kid in Arlington, VA. This reflection and a sense of awe led me to the realization that sometimes it only required one person or one idea to spark a movement

The goal is to increase the diversity of new hires. The three initiatives are minority college recruiting, job fairs in minority communities, and mining diversity websites such as the diversity employment exchange. The HR manager has requested an I/O external consultant to aid in understanding which recruiting methods were the most successful at making a good impression of Acme Inc. as a potential employer. The most fascinating fact I learned today was about the Jefferson Memorial’s location in Washington, D.C. Even though this building’s placement looks very ordinary, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the placement of the memorial, and the historical connection with the other testaments to our founding fathers. Back in the 1900s, there was a commision to create a memorial honoring our 38th President Theodore Roosevelt’s contributions to American History. There was even a contest, and the architect John Russell Pope’s design was chosen for the memorial.…

As Pennsylvania's only land-grant university, Penn State has a broad mission of teaching, research, and public service. In 1855, the Commonwealth chartered it as one of the nation's first colleges of agricultural science, with a goal to apply scientific principles to farming. A series of undergraduate branch campuses were established in the1930s primarily to meet the needs of students who were location-bound during the Great Depression. Those campuses were predecessors of today's system of 24 Penn State campuses located throughout the Commonwealth. Penn State began offering systematic advanced-degree work in 1922 with the formation of the Graduate School.…

The event I attended for the diversity assignment was called, “Social Innovation in a Digital Context” (SIDC). The event was held October 16 at the PASSHE Center City campus, located at 701 Market St in Philadelphia. This event was a PowerPoint presentation with a question and answer format at the end. The SIDC event’s main focus was sharing the importance of the relationship between digital technology and how it has the ability to influence socio-political change. The SIDC’s goal is creating a successful program that demonstrates the effectiveness in how people of different cultural backgrounds can work together to build better societies.…

Diversity Strategic Plan In order to properly fulfill the mission statement of Florence Schools it is important to lay out a clear and concise plan for how to properly achieve those goals. Moreover, as we seek to prepare students to compete in the global and diverse world; it is important that we give them the tools to be successful. This is why the plan seeks to properly ensure that we are pushing low achieving minority students to a success; while at the same time promoting within high achieving minority students the ability to flourish academically. Likewise, according to the research due to our racially diverse classrooms; it is important that children see themselves reflected in different perspectives, and that teaching and learning reflects…

Diversity Interview I completed this interview with an old friend, Darian, she is African American and her prefered sexual orientation is female. I have never really given much thought on how different we are, and still believe we are more alike than different. Commemorating America Through History Statues are cascaded in looming cloth, old glory burns on the sidewalk, objectors kneel while people cheer, signs are held and slurs are yelled, and children grow up with doubt and fear. The situations I have just described are in no way falsified or exaggerated. Our beloved America, built upon centuries of hard work, blood, sweat, tears, and a dare to dream and discover is being challenged. Countless attempts are curated and put forth to shut out the very values and events that have shaped our people and our very democracy.…

I believe that the future of positive diversity within our country is at a cross roads as another presidential election approaches. While political candidates leverage the differences within society to create fear, I hope to use this same diversity to better myself, my friends, and the university. I appreciate the efforts of the Ohio State University to promote diversity and inclusion and look forward to these experiences as I move on to the next chapter in my…
