Why Managers Need to Understand Cultural, Ethnic, and Gender Differences in Business The computer age and increase in technology has created the world to become smaller and more interconnected between people from diverse cultures around the world. Although there is a continued improvement towards diversity tolerance, there are still challenges to be faced within today’s society. Within the last few decades, this trend has been changing due to a growing minority population, and an increase in education amongst diverse groups. Due to this, one third of the global workforce has been outsourced to China and India. “Emerging global trends are driving the growing economic power of a diverse workforce” (Amadeo, 2014). Discrimination in the workforce occurs when people are either denied employment opportunities, or once employed, they are treated on a lower level (Bell, 2007).
