As Pennsylvania's only land-grant university, Penn State has a broad mission of teaching, research, and public service. In 1855, the Commonwealth chartered it as one of the nation's first colleges of agricultural science, with a goal to apply scientific principles to farming. A series of undergraduate branch campuses were established in the1930s primarily to meet the needs of students who were location-bound during the Great Depression. Those campuses were predecessors of today's system of 24 Penn State campuses located throughout the Commonwealth. Penn State began offering systematic advanced-degree work in 1922 with the formation of the Graduate School.…

I will use my time at Furman University to make close connections with my classmates and professors and to grow in my knowledge of finance and economics. My objective at Furman is to surround myself with spiritual people who will push me to achieve my goals even after graduation. The diverse community at Furman University will enable me to expand my knowledge of different religions and allow me to teach others about Christianity. Also, keeping connections with a variety of people will allow me to learn from others experiences and to share my experiences with others as well.…

From the days of the founding fathers, American has used all means to ensure that she does not lose the concept of one’s identity. The society and government as well as general organization have undergone different stages of revolution but have remained steadfast in ensuring that the full identity is not lost. Given the diversity in the modern days as well as the development of the American history, it is clear that pluralism has remained as strong as it was in the past. The changing democracy could have changed the American wellbeing. More so the competing corporate world would have voiced the opinion in changing how things works in the modern day America.…
Diversity is defined by Merriam-Webster dictionary as the quality or state of having many different forms, types, ideas, etc. and the state of having people who are different races or who have different cultures in a group or organization (Merriam-Webster 's online dictionary, 1999). Diversity in higher education is represented by the diverse groups of faculty, staff and students that make up the college community, that include but are limited to race, ethnicity, and gender. Student affairs professionals with the guidance of executive staff, have the responsibility of providing an environment that is welcoming and promotes growth. Along with diversity, come the varied viewpoints and differences of options. Creating an environment conducive to what the world around us represents, provides a campus community with a foundation of experiences.…
Kennesaw State university prides itself as a university which facilitates cultural growth and diversity as well as any other top notch university in the nation. People from all walks of life can be found anywhere on campus, whether it be simply eating in the dining hall or engaging in the numerous activities Kennesaw State University sponsors that enhance students’ cultural scope. These activities held on campus are the life blood of the cultural aspect of this university and a student would be hard pressed to find a day where there was not a single event being held that contributes to the university’s culture. I attended three diverse events that all contributed to create an atmosphere of free expression, higher level thinking, self-directed…
The two important topics that I believe residents should be educated on when they live in campus housing are: the importance of embracing and respecting diversity as well as the dangers of drug use and alcohol consumption. I believe that each resident should be informed of the importance of embracing and respecting diversity whether it is racial, sex, sexual orientation, or even socioeconomically. I often hear people use homophobic and racist comments either as direct insults or in regular conversation and I feel that such language, which is very inconsiderate, derives not just from hate but ignorance. This topic is important because everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect no matter what.…
I am so excited for the opportunity to share in this most diverse campus at NC State! Being a student at NC State, I would both benefit from and contribute to campus diversity. It would enable me to learn about different cultures and inevitably make me a more sensitive person and more tolerant of other peoples views and religious beliefs. Also, being a student at such a diverse campus would prepare me for the work force where I'll encounter people from all walks of life who's views might be different from my own. What I would like to contribute to NC State's diversity are my own set of views and perspectives.…
Throughout my childhood, I was raised in a mono culture community and attended schools where a minority was the majority. When considering an institution I found diversity to be an important factor to take into account, essentially drawing me to NYU. In an environment where people of varying backgrounds come together and join there different minds and perspectives, the mind is bound to become more open. I believe this sort of setting is beneficial as it prepares you for the real world with a better view and understanding of others. College is the ideal place for individuals to grow and to connect, but I feel NYU specially would encourage me to continue becoming a well-rounded individual not only as a student but as a successful member of…
Affirmative Action—the consideration of race in college admissions—allows colleges to admit students based on their race to increase campus diversity, even if their academic standing is not as high as other students applying to the university. A common fallacy is that minorities are underrepresented in higher education, and while this may be historically accurate, there is a new group that is losing the benefits of higher education—lower class students. By extending more opportunities to these students, colleges can increase diversity on campus without considering race, and develop a wider range of backgrounds and experiences within their student body. It is time to end the affirmative action practice of taking race into the consideration of…
I am a second generation Latino-American who is outgoing and friendly. I would contribute to the campus diversity by sharing my Latino culture with the students of NC State. I find that there are many misconceptions about what it means to be a Latino-American. This could benefit the campus by giving them the knowledge of another culture and their beliefs, so they're able to expand their worldly view; and maybe inspire people to visit Latin America and learn, since this is what diversity is about. In addition, I’m outgoing and friendly, so I would encourage other students diversity, to help me expand my knowledge and theirs.…
Background of the Problem: The Cypress-Fairbanks school district demographic is changing. There is currently a large variety of races, cultures, languages, and religious beliefs. Additionally, the widening gap between rich and poor is growing ever wider. Cypress is a growing suburban community on the northwestern side of Houston, Texas. According to Community Impact, a local newspaper, “The 11 zip codes that make up the general Cy-Fair area have seen an increase in ethnic and income diversity throughout the past decade.”…
Experiencing in diversity and difference during my practice has been given me the knowledge and skills to expand my expertise in more than one area. While having my placement at Lutheran Social Services it has taught me how beneficial it is to work with others in diversity within all aspects of a person’s life. During my times at Lutheran, I often was excited to develop new ways in which that the social worker assists the Lutheran community. This placement has allowed me to gain experience in more ways.…
Diversity and inclusion in education is an ongoing issue that, as teachers, we will need to be constantly aware of. To be aware of the diverse students in the classroom, whether that be their various cultural and religious beliefs or simply their learning styles as well as being welcoming and accepting of these differences and adapting teaching methods to ensure their success in school means that we are, hopefully, getting the most potential out of the students we are teaching. There is a correlation between diversity in an educational context and Human Rights and Social Justice in the wider world. Simply, diversity relates to Human Rights and Social Justice in education because as the Australian Human Rights Commission states Human Rights…
