In Jonas’ community all but one sets of twins or siblings that look alike are killed to avoid confusion. Although, only Jonas and The Giver can experience colors everything is bland and dull to everyone else. None of the citizens don’t exactly know or have feelings to use. In Jonas’ community, all and every type of feeling is diminished for the sake of the citizens. Page 94 in chapter 12, in The Giver, states that “... There was a time, actually-you’ll see this in the memories later-when flesh was many different colors. That was before we went to Sameness.”This helps explain why sameness was put into place so that racism wouldn’t happen, although it woudn’t help
