I would listen to people say unthinkable things, ask outlandishly offensive questions, and make purely ignorant statements about Black people without recognizing that I was in the room. I had a newfound outlook on the less glorified view of what is like to be a minority. Since, I was immersed in such a culturally diluted environment, there were very few people to come to my aid when situations had occurred. I remember being in classrooms where there were practically no other people to support my standpoints. I often saw many Black people using these prejudices as a gateway into friendships or acceptance. They had given away their self respect, and turned their backs to their culture. They failed to realize what they were doing was wrong; they had not understood that supporting these prejudices was not going to make things better. I feel that there is a divide and I am stuck
