The idea of having diversity in world-wide unique system has been controversial for decades. In England and Wales where ‘the white men’ stereotype was predominant from the beginning was highly debated; and not everyone agreed on changing this culture. Groups including disabled lawyers, BME- black minority, LGB – lesbian, gay, bisexual, women, persons with different religious views or persons from disadvantaged social backgrounds, with lower family income had always struggled to secure experience or to obtain a job in a sector “dominated by white, male lawyers from the highest socio-economic groups.”
The essay will analyze the effectiveness of the measures taken to improve diversity in the legal sector and will go deeper to look at the barriers faced by women, LGB and BME once they have successfully entered the legal sector. Furthermore, it will discuss, in favour of the diversity, all the measures and policies taken by the firms to overcome these obstacles and have a diverse legal system from the entry-level to partners level.

Despite 7 years ago when none of the London’s firm have appeared on the Stonewall Work Equality Index’s top 100, in 2010 no more than 4 firm appeared on, fact that express firm’s willingness to improve diversity. As well as taking part in the Law Society surveys and other reports, to keep an up to date knowledge on how the individuals from the demographic groups are developing.
A very intelligent way to address the social differences is by conducting less male-orientated or alcohol related social events. Organizing more open-events by trying to integrate these particulars groups, firms are creating an open culture in the same time.
