Before coming to Chicago, I have lived in 3 other places for long term. Growing up in Malaysia, later in Qatar, and studying in Iowa for 3 and half years, have made me to be aware and open to differences in others. I was never fond of gay marriages, but I have no rights to criticize them. The reason why I have never cared about gay people is because both Malaysia and Qatar are against gay marriages. They were looked upon with disgust and sinful. Therefore, I have never seen so many gay people in my life until I moved to Chicago. I barely see gays in Iowa as well. Nevertheless, they are usually one of the nicest people I have ever met. Besides that, I have heard people saying African Americans are always grumpy, especially the ladies. Back in Malaysia, the Indian ladies act grumpy as well because they are the minority, darker tone compared to other citizens. There is a reason why certain people act in a certain way and I understand why they act that way. One fact that I have noticed between Malaysia and the United States is the issue on racism. Both the countries are melting pots but racism is given more importance here than in Malaysia. Even though segregation happens in Malaysia and people are aware of it, they do not make it a big issue. Most of them tend to ignore it or build a thicker skin. Since the United States has a deep root of history in racism, it is given huge importance and try to alleviate
